Loan against mutual funds

Borrow against your funds, without selling them.

Your fund units are pledged as security instead of being sold. Your money stays invested, and you pay interest only on what you actually use.

Lending partner: Volt Money · Sanction, limit and rate are the lender’s decision

Key ideas

How it works, and when not to use it.

What it is

You pledge your funds. You don’t sell them.

Your units are marked as security. You still own them, they still move with the market, and payouts are still yours.

Borrow against what you built, without breaking it.

Why not sell

Selling costs you tax and future growth.

Selling means paying tax, and the money leaves your plan for good. A loan avoids both.

Sell once, and your growth starts again from zero.

If markets fall

The real risk is a market fall.

If your pledged funds fall in value, the lender will ask you to add funds or repay part. Borrow well below your limit.

Borrow less than your limit. Markets can fall at any time.

Good uses

Use it for a short gap you can repay.

A medical bill, a late payment, or money between selling one house and buying the next.

Borrow only when you know how you will repay.

Bad uses

Never borrow to buy more funds.

Borrowing against your funds to buy more funds doubles your risk and adds interest on top.

Never borrow to chase a market.

Why it exists

Selling is usually the worse choice.

Selling to raise cash means paying tax, stopping your growth, and buying back later at whatever the price is then.

Your funds stay invested

You pledge the units — you don’t sell them. Your portfolio keeps working.

No capital gains tax

A pledge is not a sale, so the borrowing itself triggers no tax.

Interest only on what you use

It works like an overdraft. Use ₹2 lakh from a ₹10 lakh limit and pay interest on ₹2 lakh.

Fast and fully online

The pledge is recorded electronically. Approval is usually the same day.

Use it for anything

Not tied to a purpose — a medical bill, a business gap, a deposit.

Cheaper than unsecured loans

It is secured, so it usually costs well below a personal loan or credit card.

How it works

From pledge to money in your account.

  1. 1

    We check what qualifies

Not every scheme qualifies. We tell you your realistic limit before you apply.

  2. 2

    Units are pledged

The registrar records the pledge. You still own the units and get any payouts.

  3. 3

    Your limit is set

A share of today’s value — usually higher for debt funds than equity.

  4. 4

    Use what you need

Interest is charged daily, only on what you have used.

  5. 5

    Repay and release

Repay and the pledge is lifted. Your units were never sold.

The loan is made by the lender; we arrange it and stay involved. Terms, interest and the limit are theirs to set.

Borrowing against investments carries risk. A fall in market value can mean adding security or repaying part of the loan. This suits a short-term, repayable need — not a way to fund more investing.

Questions

The things people actually ask.

What happens if the market falls?
The value of your pledged funds falls too. If it drops below the lender’s limit, you will be asked to add more funds or repay part of the loan. We won’t let you take the maximum limit without understanding this.
Do I still get growth and dividends?
Yes. You remain the owner of the units. The pledge only stops you from selling them while the loan runs.
Is this available against every fund?
No. Each lender has an approved list, and limits differ for equity and debt funds. We check yours first.
How is it different from a personal loan?
It is secured, so the rate is much lower, and you pay interest only on what you use — not on a full amount from day one.

Borrowing against investments carries risk. We arrange this facility as a distributor; sanction, limit and rate are the lender’s decision. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks. Read all scheme related documents carefully.
